Marisa Takauchi was born in New York City and was raised in Tokyo. She completed her Bachelor of Fine Art at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa, specializing in ceramic sculpture. Her work is based on Japanese mythology and folklores, particularly those that deal with the charm of felines and other animals in human lives.
