Nekomata, a mythical cat that appears in Japanese folklore, has been a figure of protection for me. By giving tangible form to the vague figures who have watched over me, I am able to connect with my guardians as well as with myself. I hope that the work illuminates the overlap between the unique environment these cats inhabit and the wonders of our own world.
